Au Revoir Babylon (2)

I tried to close my eyes
but the red shined through my lids
The Darkness burned bright
and I begged the Light to rid
of this feeling I couldn't shake
it hung on the bottom of my lungs
like an earthquake

Finally I pulled out the weapon
that had inflicted the wound
it was my own prejudice
and the Light made all things new

au revoir Babylon
I've traveled with you too long
the day is almost gone
and so is my life song
so with every last ounce of me
no matter how much it hurts to sing
I will go on
so long
Babylon

I never knew how deep this would take me
I didn't know how healing could break me
I had no idea how magnificent the love
I'd been living on shallow surfaces like a water bug
But no more
